A date for patch testing!

Finally!!! October 12th,a Monday! Yayyyy!!! Evan is 8 months old and still exclusively breastfed, which his pediatric allergist said was okay. He wants me to start solids very soon again, but I am afraid! But I already know he has reacted the worst to dairy and just traces. I did find organic oatmeal with no soy or dairy. He had it at 4 months and didn't react until I tried other oatmeals with soybean oil and dairy. And I only kept switching because he would throw up or seem uninterested in them. I am nervous, but needs a better variety now. So, after I start the oatmeal, I will try pears, slowly! Everyday gets easier coping with the face that he even has this, but I know we are not alone. I also have a much stronger relationship with God as well, which I think has really been helping me out! I will post again when we do the oatmeal!!

  1. I just wrote you the longest comment in the history of the world and it got deleted!!! AGGHHH!
Anyway.. It will be shorter this time. I think our sons are around the same age. PLEASE DONT FEED HIM OATMEAL! Oats are one of the biggest triggers in FPIES. Start with sweet potatoes or apple sauce. Even those are if'y and may trigger a reaction.
Patch testing has NOTHING to do with FPIES. They are completely unrealted. Patch testing with show you foods his is allergic too, FPIES is not really an allergy. My son just had patch done today. The things he is allergic too will NOT cause an FPIES reaction, just as the things that cause an FPIES reaction he is not allergic to. I'm sorry its very confusing.
Get a hold of me if you have more questions and we can email.. or even talk. I have done soo much research.

  2. Actually he does fine with oatmeal with no dairy and soy and he did react badly to applesauce and sweet potatoes. Patch testing is related to FPIES and does not test for IgE allergies. He already had the prick testing done and all came back negative which is typical for FPIES. Patch testing is still experimental, but can show what he will react to the way FPIES reacts. He had oatmeal, he was on that first-the organic one and did fine for 2 weeks, it was the rice cereal and non organic oatmeal which has dairy that he reacted to. Every baby is different with FPIES. He is fine with oats. He is all negative for IgE allergies. I have also done hours upon hours of research. I think most of us do...lol Are you breastfeeding?

  3. isn't it crazy how differently they react?? i think thats what makes this the most frustrating!
Yes, i am breastfeeding. are you??
have you found anything on breastfeeding? I am having such a hard time figuring out if i should be eliminating his triggers.
I just updated my blog with our story so far!

  4. It is crazy! I am exclusively breastfeeding right now yes. I bought pears 3 weeks ago but am too afraid to start them...he is definately thriving on just breastmilk though. As far as eliminating trigger foods-kids that breastfeed and have FPIES usually do exceptionally well even without elimination of trigger foods because the trigger food have to be directly ingested, so by the time they get it from the breastmilk, it is much different. Definately don't eliminate triggers UNLESS you see him having issues, but they usually do very well. I am going to read your blog now, so I am sure we'll be talkin a lot! Thanks for posting!

  5. I am anxious to hear how your patch testing goes. We are scheduled for patch testing the first week of November. If she tests negative to soy, our allergist will do an in-office soy challenge with an IV in place.
